THE RALEIGH TRANSPORTATION HUB

The concept for the Transportation Hub was to create an urban space that provides connectivity to the rest of the city and beyond. Through the use of layering, and framing views, we achieve an unmatched experience that blends the urban scape into our building to become one.

The Transportation Hub becomes a gateway from Dix park and serves as a space for gathering, recreation and entertainment. Connecting NC State’s Campus with downtown, and the triangle area, becoming an icon for Raleigh. The flowing ramps in its massing allow for people to circulate easily throughout the building’s exterior. The wolf-cycle extends into the hub, welcoming cyclists to partake in activities. Whether it is grabbing a bite, walking through the Art bridge, or engaging with the train platform enroute to your future destination, the Transportation Hub becomes an essential part in connecting all of the people of Raleigh.

The Hub strives to become a 21st-century eco-friendly and car-free urban space that encourages its citizens and visitors to be proactive. Through the use of green roofs, as well as photovoltaic technology, the Hub is able to minimize its energy usage. With the intent to minimize Carbon emissions on-site, The Transportation Hub offers both car and bike share programs allowing for everyone to have alternative ways of transportation. Waterfront views line the perimeter becoming a wetland reserve that also serves as a water filtration system.

SECTIONS

Whether it is bowling, dining, playing at splash pad, or using bike-share to ride around the urban scape, our design aims to engage and invite the public. The Hub also serves visitors, with a boutique hotel where visiting faculty, lecturers, parents, or prospective students can enjoy all amenities while being just steps away from the North Carolina State Main Campus and the city of Raleigh.
